Rome arrived, but in no way totally subdued them. The mountains, forests, and native resistance meant that Romanization was restricted: roads, bridges, agricultural villas… although the language and plenty of customs continued by themselves path.
III. Concerning Empires: The Early Middle Ages
After the slide of Rome, these lands lay in between two worlds: the Frankish and the Visigothic.
